Celebrate Grandparent's Day
Sunday, September 10, 2006
Special people deserve a special day, and grandparents are very special people. Use these simple suggestions to honor the grandparents in your life.
This year take advantage of Grandparent's Day as an opportunity to express gratitude and love to the grandparents in your family. Here are some suggestions to get you started:
For grandparents that live nearby:
Plan a special meal and bring it to their home, or if weather permits, have a family picnic at the park.
Bring them store-bought flowers or flowers from your yard.
Have an evening family get-together featuring the grandparent's favorite dessert(s).
Have your children paint a clay pot with a special message and plant flowers or herbs in it.
For out-of-town grandparents:
Make a homemade card (perhaps featuring a photo) and mail it.
Send a gift card for the grandparent's favorite restaurant or dessert place.
Send homemade or store-bought cookies or candy.
Mail the grandparents a framed photo of the grandparents with their grandkids.

Now's The Time!
To Preserve Precious Summertime Memories
September's the perfect time to put together photos and memorabilia from summer!
Step 1:
Print or develop your photos and gather mementos such as postcards, ticket stubs, maps and programs
Step 2:
Purchase a scrap book or photo album. Want to try something different? Use your summer memorabilia to create place mats! (see directions below).
Step 3:
Decide on themes for pages. Examples are trips, sports, Vacation Bible School, pets, one page for each family member, etc.
Step 4:
Pick a Saturday or an evening to get the family together. Have each person make a page for an album or a place mat.
Endless Summer Place Mats
Cut poster board to place mat size, about 16"x12". Draw or paint a background on your mat if desired. Arrange memorabilia from your summer outings (postcards, photos, maps, tickets or pressed flowers) on top of your decorated poster board. Cut two pieces of contact paper slightly larger than your mat, about 17" x 13". Peel off the backing and place the poster board on top of one piece, and carefully cover your memorabilia with the other piece. Trim the edges, leaving a little on the sides to create a seal.
